Domyślnie A little history about the game of mahjong!

Mahjong gained popularity in the Western world in the 1920s. But, contrary to popular belief, the game appeared in China a little earlier. Although they are trying to find its roots almost in the 6th century BC. e., the exact origin is still unknown. It is believed that the prototype of mahjong was a card game that appeared around the 12th century, with similar rules. At first, it was necessary to make only digital combinations by suit, but later higher cards with various fantasy symbols were added to the game. There is also no exact data on exactly when and why the cards were transformed into chips; it is known that the game, approximately in its modern form, became widespread in the south and southeast of China under the name “make,” which means “sparrow” in Cantonese. Apparently because the sound of chips hitting the table resembled the clicking of a flock of sparrows. The game quickly spread throughout China, and at the end of the 19th century, Europeans became interested in it.

As already mentioned, there is nothing complicated in the very principle of the game. A standard set consists of 144 chips, of which 136 are directly used in the game. They are divided into basic ones, almost like cards, divided into three suits (usually called “bamboos”, “circles” and “symbols”) and numbered from one to nine. As well as chips of the highest order, which include four “winds” and three “dragons” - Green, Red and White. The remaining eight chips are called “colors” or “seasons”; they are not involved in making combinations, but are used only to increase the value of the points scored.

It is not worth dwelling directly on the rules of the game and the types of combinations, since there are still a great many of them, and even in different regions of China their variations have been preserved. Suffice it to say that in the classical rules, the goal of each player is to collect mahjong, that is, move by move, turn 14 random tiles received during the distribution into a set of four “triples” (three identical tiles or three tiles of the same suit, in order) and one "pair". The one who manages to do this first becomes the winner.
